Walter R. “Walt” Marvich, age 77, of Swansea, IL, born on August 2, 1944, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Monday, November 15, 2021, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Walt grew up in Fairmont City, IL and graduated from East Side High School and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He was drafted and served in the United States Army stationed in Vietnam. After marrying the love of his life in 1968, he began a career at NCR and opened Rite Business Products in 1986 and Penske Truck Rental in 1990. He coached numerous sports teams including St. Albert the Great girls’ basketball, Kids’ Korner, and the Viper Softball teams for over 15 years, where he touched many lives and created many “softball families." He was a treasured and beloved coach, mentor, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph “Boots” and Helen, nee Kovach, Marvich, and sister-in-law, and Mary Louise Kleiber.
Walt is survived by his wife, Antoinette “Toni” Marvich, nee Weatherly; his daughter, Teri (Geoff) Hebner of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Anabelle Hebner and Mitchell Hebner; his siblings, Nick (Ann) Marvich, Mike (Mary) Marvich, and Rick (Jill) Marvich; his brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Bernie) Lowe and Stanley (Jody) Weatherly; and his life-long friend, Vince Carril. He is also survived by much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL, with Fr. Jim Voelker officiating. A family graveside service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO at a later date.
