Roger J. Hund Obituary

Roger J. Hund, age 81, of Mascoutah, IL, born on September 4, 1942 in Belleville, IL, passed away April 20, 2024 at home.

Roger’s career began with an internship at Dow Chemical while attending Marquette University. He later served in the Missouri Army National Guard. His work experience included jobs at Dow Chemical Company, Phelps Dodge Aluminum, and Obear-Nester Glass Co., where he was the Traffic and Purchasing Manager.  In 1978, he began working at 7-Up/Warner Jenkinson as a Purchasing, Engineering, Maintenance and Receiving Manager and was a member of the National Association of Certified Purchasing Managers. In January 1987, he began working at Scott AFB Contracting Office and was the Contracting Officer for the renovation of the Wherry Housing Complex. Roger then served as a Contracting Officer for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). He retired in December 2006 at the age of 64.

He was an active member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, IL.  Roger was Past Grand Knight for Holy Childhood of Jesus Council 4380 Knights of Columbus in 1972-1974 and 2016, District Deputy 1974-1982, and a Fourth Degree Member. He was also the first President of the Belleville Knights of Columbus Diocesan Chapter. Roger served as an advisory board member on the Board of Directors for Landmark Bank in Mascoutah.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and friends along with traveling, especially going on cruises.   He looked forward to going to timeshares with his dear friends and the annual Florida trip to watch baseball spring training and play golf.  His favorite pastimes were golfing with his buddies, watching golf tournaments on TV with his neighbor, Jerry, breakfast with the guys, and grilling the perfect steak.  Roger scored his age, “74” in golf, had two holes-in-one, the last hole-in-one being at age 79.

Roger always liked telling a good joke and never met a stranger. He was a generous, loving father who was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Violet Hund; a brother-in-Law, James Kassly; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia Hund and Dorothy Ann Draper.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Hund, whom he married in Mascoutah on October 6, 1966; his children, Lisa (John) Thouvenin, Debra Plab, and Ryan (Kassie) Hund; his grandchildren, Morgan (Adam) Bauer, Kelsey (Matt) Konieczka, Dawson and Derek Plab, and Evelyn, Nolan and Nora Hund; two brothers, Dale Hund of Mascoutah, IL, and Larry (Hady) Hund of Magnolia, TX., a sister-in-law, Dolores "Lori" Kassly; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
