Michael Melichar Obituary

Michael D. Melichar, age 79, of Belleville, IL, born on June 6, 1943, in E. St. Louis, IL, died on Monday, October 3, 2022, at his residence.

Michael was a United States Army Veteran and retired as a Yard Clerk for Terminal Railroad. He also was a police officer for National City and Brooklyn, IL. Michael was a Mason and enjoyed deer hunting.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen L. Melichar, nee Belongee; his parents, James and Edith, nee Shepphard Melichar; his sisters, Virginia Eslinger and Betty Gasawski; and his brother, James Melichar.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Vernon) Speidel of Belleville, IL; his grandchildren, Rachel Abernathy and Nolan Abernathy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL with Rev Ed Ingram officiating. Interment will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, IL.
