Paul Solana Obituary

Paul D. Solana, age 75, of High Ridge, MO, born on January 29, 1943 in Crosby, TX, died on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at SSM St. Clare Hospital, Fenton, MO.  

Paul was a graduate of Southwestern Illinois College with studies in Horticulture.  He also attended Lee Junior College, Sam Houston State University and Houston Community College.  Paul attended Deer Park High School Class of 1961. While in high school, he served in ROTC and enjoyed playing third base on the baseball team.  He worked out of Pipefitters Local #211 in Houston, TX as a welder. He worked as carpenter in and around Belleville, IL  as well as designer for two prestigious landscape companies in St. Louis, MO.  Paul started his own business Solana Landscape and Garden Design and worked there until he retired.  Paul was a Christian who loved his family.  He was a member of Gospel Tabernacle in Godfrey, IL, Christian Worship Assembly, Caseyville, IL and Gospel Assembly Church in St. Louis, MO.  Paul loved being out on the lakes and rivers. He tied flies and was a fly fisherman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, however in his later years, he didn’t want to kill anything. All fish were caught and released. He loved reading and studying his bible. Paul enjoyed discussing other philosophies and relating them back to the scriptures. We can all agree that Paul was a man of many skills.    

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frances, nee Curry, Solana; his two brothers, George Dennis Solana and Fred Vincent Solana; his three sisters, Josephine Solana, who died in infancy, Ellen Young and Frances Lois Griggsby; a sister-in-law, Vickie J. Hampsey; a brother-in-law John Young:, his nephews, Jacob L. Hampsey and Fred Young and a great-niece, Courtney Roscow. 

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of forty-six years, Estia Solana, nee Hampsey; sister-in-law Marsha Solana, his nieces and nephews, Michael Griggsby, Patrick Griggsby, Stacy Griggsby, Melody Lopez Guillen, Kay Ellen (Mike) Ezell, Sarah Graham, John (Cathy) Young III; his great nieces and nephews, Lee Griggsby, Ryan Griggsby and Angela Rose Lopez, Kevin (Sherri) McDonald; John Michael (Eileen) Graham, Mary Ellen Graham, Sally Jean (Ben) Skidmore, Jennifer Daniel, Dennis (Jamie) Young, John Young IV,  Amanda (Adam) Barton: his great great nieces and nephews Brodyn and Emma Griggsby, Elijah Bernal, Sophia and Gabriel Santos, Berkley McDonald & Jonathon Hansen; his mother and father-in-law, John R. and Marybelle, nee, Stamps, Hampsey, Sr.; his sisters-in-law and brother-in law, Deborah (Dennis) Collins, John R. (Joyce) Hampsey, Jr., Laura (Crede) Edens and Katrina (Herbert) McCarty; his nieces and nephews, Chad (Laurie) Collins, Darwin (Elisha) Collins, Heather (Tim) Mitchell, Merideth (Travis) Wilson, John (Andrea) Hampsey, III, Matthew Edens, and Thomas and Laurabelle McCarty; his great-nieces and nephews, Matthew (Katie) May, Phoebe (Justin) Foltz, Cole, Stefani and Sam Collins-Holdman, Jordan Collier (Bobbie Boyer), MaKayla Collier (Ryan Prock), Rachel and Tara Roscow, Anna (Wyatt) Hennrich, Andrew and Austin Mitchell, Makenzi,  Morgan, TJ, and Tyler Wilson, Mykaylah, Jack, and Sophia Hampsey; his great-great nephews, Wyatt May, Cayson Murray, Braxton Collier, Joseph Prock and Wyatt and Wolf Hennrich; his many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and his beloved furry friends, Chula and Willow.

Paul's family want to extend a very special thanks to all Paul's doctors, nurses, caregivers and coordinators at Barnes Jewish Hospital, Washington University Physicians, Center For Advanced Medicine, St. Luke's Hospital and SSM St. Clare Hospital.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
