Walter Kline

My favorite golf story of all-time happened when Walt was my playing partner.

My tee shot had landed at the edge of a pond, but I could still see the ball and get a club on it, so I decided to try hitting it out of the water, which I had never done before.
I took a swing, splashed in the water with my club, and promptly fell into the pond.
Soaking wet and covered in mud, the next thing I see is Walt laughing and dancing around and hollering up on the green. I'm thinking he's having a laugh at my expense, so I shouted a friendly curse at him.
But what he was doing was celebrating my shot landing about a foot from the pin.

I'll always remember Walt, and the joy he took in the little things.

He lived a good life--we should all be so lucky. I know I feel lucky to have known him.
