Walter L. Kline, age 92, of O’Fallon, IL, born on November 21, 1928 in Lowell, MI, died on Friday, March 26, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Walter retired after over 20 years of honorable service as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was a Flight Line Crew Chief and a recipient of the Bronze Battle Star for his service in the Vietnam War. After retirement from the military, Walter was a switchman with Alton & Southern Railroad for 10 years. Walter graduated from Lowell High School and was a starting football player all four years. He loved playing golf and enjoyed watching all sports. He was a Cadillac enthusiast and a devout family man. He loved family road trips as a passenger and military air shows. Walter made the best buttered toast in the world. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine R. “Gerry” Kline, nee Waltrip; his daughter, Carole Habermehl; his great-grandson, Darrien Jackson; his parents, Herman and Alice, nee Koewers, Kline; and his 5 brothers and sisters.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Paula (Michael) Happel of O’Fallon, IL, and Karen (Brian) Bullerdick of Lake St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren, Kyle (Jess) Sweeney, Kory (Brianna) Bullerdick, Craig Habermehl, Scott (Dawn) Happel, and Dan (Beth) Happel; his great-grandchildren, Joel (Morgan) Habermehl, and Alyson (Michael) Cowan; and his companion, Marilyn Ficeli of Lowell, MI.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL, with Pastor Hal Santos officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
