Walter P. Grogan Jr., 72, of Collinsville, Illinois, born Jan. 6, 1953 in East St. Louis, died Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at his residence.
He was a 1971 graduate of Assumption High School in East St. Louis, Illinois, and a 1975 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Illinois. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Illinois Eta at SIUE.
Walter was a photographer and journalist for 30 years. He worked for the Metro-East Journal, Yelvington Publications, the Belleville News-Democrat, the Jefferson County Democrat-Pilot, the Journal Newspapers of Southern Illinois, and the Redbird Review. He did freelance assignments for St. Louis corporations, National Geographic, World, Time, Barrons, The Economist, Glamour, the Associated Press, the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the St. Louis Globe-Democrat and St. Louis Magazine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Patrick Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Grogan, nee Capps; a sister, Mary Kathryn (“Katie”) Bauer; and brothers-in law William Bauer Sr., John Kreisler and Dennis Riggs Sr.
He is survived by his significant other Patricia Collins, sisters Margaret Ann (“Peggy”) Kreisler, and Rosemary Riggs, and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Peace Chapel, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Collinsville, IL.
