Virginia “Ginny” Gregowicz, nee Hall, age 86, passed away on May 31, 2024, at the Dammert Geriatric Center at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine.
Ginny was born in Hillsboro, IL on June 29, 1937. She was the daughter of Bryce and Ruth Hall. Ginny graduated from Hillsboro High School and went to St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing. She then worked at St. John’s Hospital as a nurse when she left to marry Andrew “Andy” Gregowicz, M.D. in June 1961. In 1976, Ginny became the President of the St. Clair County Medical Society Auxiliary for a one year. Andy and Ginny had four daughters, “The Little Women,” Beth, Joan, Meg and Amy.
Ginny enjoyed cooking, gardening, and decorating her house. She particularly liked to read. Her favorites being English Detective Novels. She loved family gatherings, family vacations, trips to California to see her grandsons, and luncheons with her nursing friends from St. John’s Hospital. Ginny was active in the Cerebral Palsy Society and the Epilepsy Foundation seeking help for her youngest daughter who has Cerebral Palsy.
She readily made friends and always had a smile on her face when she greeted you. Ginny was a devoted wife and mother unsparing in her love for them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryce and Ruth Hall; her daughter, Joan Collins; two brothers, Jim Hall and George Hall and her sister, Kris Hall.
Ginny is survived by her husband of 63 years, Andy Gregowicz; her daughters, Elizabeth Gregowicz of Belleville, IL, Margaret Gregowicz of Boston, MA, and Amy Gregowicz of Belleville, IL; and her grandchildren, Bryce Collins, Aidan Collins and Rhys Collins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Chapel, 1500 Baugh Ave., East St. Louis, IL; St. Clair Associated Vocational Enterprises (S.A.V.E.) 3001 Save Rd., Belleville, IL, Cerebral Palsy of Southwestern Illinois or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral procession will leave at 11:00 a.m. from Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, for a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Chapel, East St. Louis, IL. with Rev. William Spencer O.F.M. officiating.
