Vada M. Kennedy

Vada M. Kennedy, nee Marshel, age 89, of Caseyville, IL, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL, born on March 22, 1934, in Wayne County, IL, died on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Red Bud Regional Care Center, Red Bud, IL.

Vada was a homemaker.  She enjoyed reading books, working puzzles, crocheting, bird watching, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her children and grandchildren, which she did quite well.  Vada was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fairview Heights, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” H. Kennedy, Sr.,  her parents, Ulla and Alma, nee Smith Marshel, and her siblings Duane Marshel, Ruth Ann Young, and David Marshel.

Vada is survived by her 6 children, John (Janine) Kennedy, Jr, Kevin (Tonya) Kennedy, Thomas “Tom” (Jackie) Kennedy, Laura (Randy) Fratus, Karen (Brian) Hendricks and Ruth Lemp (Dave Frierdich); her 10 grandchildren, Joe, Katy, Kyle, Jennifer, Jack, Tori, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Lisa, and Tony; her 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Liam, Rhys, Adalyn, Skylar, Lucas, Chase, Jenna, Haylee, and Tyler; her siblings, Doneta Colclasure, Leland “Pete” Marshel,  Patricia Cisne, and Mary Ellen Marshel, her sister-in-law, Lisa Smith; and her brother-in-law, Douglas Young and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Family Hospice, 5110 West Main Street, Belleville, IL 62226 or to The Alzheimer’s Association.         

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.

Visitation will also be held from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St Stephen Catholic Church, 901 South Main Street, Caseyville, IL 62232.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St. Stephen Catholic Church Caseyville, IL. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
