Susan Lynn Harris

Susan L. Harris, nee Evansco, age 58, of Smithton, IL, born on October 12, 1965, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at her home.

Susan worked at JC Penney and made countless friendships. She then moved on as the Athletic Secretary at Belleville Township High School-East, for 23 years, and made a lasting impression with students and faculty.  Susan enjoyed many things over the years and excelled at playing soccer, basketball and tennis.  She liked playing co-ed softball with family and friends.  Susan loved riding her bike everywhere and stopping at Dairy Haven was a must.  Being outside and gardening became a favorite pastime.  Her encounters with the colorful reels and lights of the slot machine were something to behold.  The thrill of winning was in her blood and her contagious smile lit up the room.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris, nee Skelly Evansco; and her brother, David A. Evansco.

Susan is survived by her husband, Ted Harris; her children, Nathan Harris of Gulf Shores, AL and Lindsey (Larry) Benevides of Floresville, TX; her grandchildren, Kimber Harris, Joshua Lyons and Joseph Benevides; her siblings, Steve Evansco of Collinsville, IL, Mark (Janene) Evansco of Dupo, IL, and Nancy (Gary) Rittenhouse of Shiloh, IL; and her sister-in-law, Patty Evansco of Millstadt, IL.  She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Siteman Cancer Center, Shiloh, IL., or to BJC Hospice.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL, with Pastor Ben Godard officiating.  Following funeral services, Susan’s final resting place will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
