Stella M. Baldwin

Stella Marie Baldwin, nee Labus, age 90, of Swansea, IL, born on July 10, 1935, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

Stella was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church and the Queenship of Mary Sodality, previously a 40-year member of St. Albert the Great Church, and the St. Ann’s Altar Sodality.  She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Council 592,  Friends of Fairview Heights Library, and a lifetime member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  Stella was a lifetime member of River Bluffs Girl Scout Council and a recipient of the St. Anne Medal from Bishop Albert Zuroweste in 1973. Stella graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame, Class of 1952.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, John F. and Mary Labus, nee Podraza; her husband, Thomas E. Baldwin, whom she married on May 21, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in East St. Louis, IL and who passed away on December 31, 2012.

Stella is survived by her three loving daughters, Elaine (Mark) Harter, Sharon (Ben) Davinroy, and Janet Baldwin (Steve DeMaster); four grandsons, Nathan (Sarah) Harter, Matthew Harter, Aaron Davinroy and Adam (Brittany) Davinroy; six great grandchildren, Liam and Audrey Harter, Amelia, Charles and Katherine Harter, and Blake Davinroy; her brother, John (MaryAnn) Labus.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

Stella will be forever loved and deeply missed by her family and friends.

Memorials are preferred to Memorial Hospital Foundation or the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

A procession will leave Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Belleville, IL with Fr. Bill McGhee officiating.  Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
