Shawn R. Overmiller, age 40, of Belleville, IL, born on July 22, 1985, in Belleville, IL, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Belleville, IL.
Shawny wasn’t just part of the Metro East Pride family; he helped shape it. His heart for our mission showed up time and time again, and his support never wavered. Whether it was showing up, cheering loud, or stepping up when we needed him most, Shawny was there.
In 2021, we were honored to present him with the Sonny Pitts Award, a recognition so well deserved. It symbolized what we already knew: Shawny embodied community, generosity, and Pride in its purest form.
He was more than our supporter. He was our friend. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering love for this community made a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.
Shawn was a social butterfly, never met a stranger, loved being outdoors, camping, and he loved spending time with his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Katy (James) Peveto and Steve Overmiller; his brother, Sheldon Overmiller; his uncle, David Garland; and his grandparents, Robert (Betty) Gagen, Joan Holland and Emerson Overmiller.
Shawn is survived by his loving husband, Richard Jones; his aunts, LeeAnn (Mark) Bush, and Bridget (Norman) Keith; many nieces and nephews; his cousins, Ashley Simpson, Cassidy Faust, and Gillian King; his best friend, Adam Barwick; and his mother and father in law.
