Ruth Sheridan Ogles Obituary

Ruth C. Sheridan Ogles, age 92, of O’Fallon, IL, born on March 30, 1929, in St. Louis, MO, died on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, surrounded by family at her daughter’s residence in Troy, IL.

Ruth was a graduate of a business school in St. Louis, MO and worked as an Executive Secretary at Scruggs’s Department Store before marrying Gilbert D. Ogles, the love of her life, and becoming a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ruth was honored by the mayor of Fairview Heights, IL with a Proclamation declaring Ruth Ogles Day for her dedication and service to the community.  She was a dedicated volunteer serving as the President of the Fairview Heights Women’s Club, member of the Fairview Heights Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Food Pantry, Ladies Wednesday Bowling League, and volunteered over 4,500 hours for the Belleville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  Ruth served in several supportive roles at the Fairview Heights St John United Church of Christ.

Her most recent accomplishment was on March 3, 2021, when she renewed her driver’s license at the age of 92.  During this time, she also lived independently and cared for herself until the time of her passing.

Ruth’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a “Gram Gathering” to share their love, memories and to celebrate her life.  The family was blessed being at her bedside when she passed very peacefully into heaven.  We are very grateful that Ashley Reeves, RN guided us during this difficult time.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert D. Ogles, who she married on June 6, 1952; and her parents, John, and Matilda, nee Sivak Sheridan, along with three siblings.  She has one surviving sister.

Ruth is survived by her children, Gil Ogles of Las Vegas, NV, Ruth (Joseph) Reeves of Troy, IL and Jill (Dan) Hall of Chugiak, AK; grandchildren, Andy Reeves (Tyra DeLaura) of Freeburg, IL, Alex (Kate Hoppe) Reeves of Anchorage, AK, Nick (Ashley) Reeves of Troy, IL, Hannah Reeves of Salt Lake City, UT, Stephen (Alyssa) Ogles of Houston, TX, and Ben Hall of Chugiak, AK; and her great-grandchildren, Lincoln (Kaila Taylor) and Layne Reeves of Freeburg, IL, Trent and Colten Reeves of Troy, IL, and Emerson Ogles of Houston, TX.

Per Ruth’s wishes, no services will be held.  A burial of cremated remains will be held in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
