Robert C. "Bob" Prescott Obituary

Robert C. “Bob” Prescott, age 75, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on October 10, 1947, at Christian Welfare Hospital, East St. Louis, IL, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Bria of Godfrey, Godfrey, IL.

Upon graduation from East St. Louis Senior High School, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Bob was a substitute school teacher throughout St. Clair County for many years after graduating from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1994.  Bob was laid up in bed for almost ten years after being struck by a drunk driver in 1981.  He was told that he would never walk again and would be confined to a wheelchair.  However, after much work and determination he came to walk with the aid of a cane and spent much of his free time in volunteer work with the disabled.  In 2010, Bob was the recipient of the Illinois Department of Conservation Volunteer of the year award for his work with disabled on the Edwardsville Shooting Classic for Persons with Disabilities and the Rend Lake Shooting Classic for Persons with Disabilities.  Bob was also a member of the St. Louis Cardinals Staff for five years and also Enterprise Event Staff.

In addition, Bob sat on the Zoning Board of Appeals for Fairview Heights and for 20 plus years served on the Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance Committee where he worked tirelessly on the Annual Disability Awareness Festival.

He was a Life Member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Gothic Lodge #852.  Bob also was a member of the Hospital Unit and Legion of Honor in the Ainad Temple of the Shriners.  In addition, he was a life member of the Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville Alumni Association, an Associate Member of the Sesser-Valier High School Outdoorsmen Club, a member of Victory Freewill Baptist Church of O’Fallon, a life member of the Gateway Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, life member of the National Rifle Association, and AARP.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman.  If not found at home or at his volunteer work, he likely could be found in the woods with either a shotgun or a crossbow hunting just about anything.  His favorite activities were hunting, fishing, camping, swimming, boating, or traveling our great country from one end to the other pulling his camper.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert R. and Ann F. Prescott; and his aunt, Gladys Griffith, nee Wagner.

Mr. Prescott raised one child and is survived by a daughter, Chondula Lee-Ann (Ron) Roberts; his adopted granddaughter, Tara (John) Menke; his adopted great-grandchild, Maggie; his niece, Jerri (Harry), nee Frick Zimmerman; and a great-niece, Ashley (Josh) nee Zimmerman McCarthy.
