Richard "R.J." Schneider

Richard “R J.”. Schneider, age 84, of Highland, IL, born on December 28, 1939, in East St. Louis, IL, died on November 29, 2024 at Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, IL.

After graduation from East Side High School, R.J. enlisted in the United States Navy.  Throughout his 24-year career, he served on 6 aircraft carriers. After seeing the world, he retired as a Petty Officer First Class. R.J. was a loving son and brother and will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond C. Schneider and his mother Helen Schneider-Moore, (nee Dietz), and his sister, Sally Sorden

Richard is survived by his sister, Patricia A. (James) Massey of Highland, IL. He is also survived by loving niece and nephews, a great niece, a great nephew, and fellow veterans, Andy and Darrel.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association and the Myasthenia Gravis Association.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Ben Godard officiating.

Richard’s body will be later interred into the Pacific Ocean with honors aboard a United States Navy vessel.
