Paulus S. Channer Obituary

Paulus S. Channer, affectionately known as Papa, age 88, of Fairview Heights, IL, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family.  Papa was born on November 20, 1935, in Charles City, IA to Scott and Eleanor Channer, who preceded him in death.

Papa served in the United States Army. Before his retirement, he worked as a cabinet maker and machinist.  An avid outdoorsman, Papa loved fishing, gardening, and mushroom hunting, and was a member of the Freeburg Sportsman’s Club.  He was also a skilled pianist with a beautiful bass voice, and indeed a true jack of all trades.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Barbara, nee Batha Channer, whom he married on September 12, 1959.  He is also survived by his son, Andrew (Vicki) Channer of Fairview Heights, IL; his daughter, Cathy (Dave) Hughes of Swansea, IL; a granddaughter, Megan (Jacob) Hall; a grandson, Danny Hughes; and three sisters, Barbara Thomsen and Nancy Clarke, of Charles City, IA, and Susan Ettinger of New York City, NY.

Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.
