Monica D. Cates

Monica D. Cates, nee Cissell, age 73, of Caseyville, IL, born on April 2, 1952, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at her son’s home.

Monica worked as a clerk with Shop and Save in Belleville, IL for 25 years.  She loved to play bingo,  go out to eat and travel with her sisters.  She also enjoyed watching “K-Pop”, Korean movies and drama shows.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Cates who died on May 30, 2024; her parents, George and Phoebe, nee Williams Cissell; and her siblings, Phil Cissell, Jim Cissell, Pat Cissell, and Barbara Cullen.

Monica is survived by her sons, David E. (Lesley) Cates of Troy, IL, Matthew J. (Kimberly) Cates of Collinsville, IL, Jacob A. (Mindy) Cates of Sullivan, MO, and Joseph C. (Rachel) Cates of Edwardsville, IL; 12 grandchildren, Katie, Andrew, Kolten, Brett, Taylor, Cole, Jacob Jr., Josh, Ethan, Joseph Jr., Shelly and Jemma; her great-granddaughter, Everleigh; and her siblings, Rita Kemp of Caseyville, IL, Rosie Cullen of Belleville, IL, and Patricia “Pete” (Mike) of Dupo, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Siteman Cancer Center.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

A Private Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
