Michael David Cooper was born in San Francisco, California, and passed away on December 31, 2025, at the age of 40. He is survived by his wife, Kristen; their daughter, Everly, and another child on the way; his parents, Robert and Kathleen Cooper; his two brothers, James and Daniel Cooper; and many family members and friends who loved him deeply.
Michael was a passionate, creative, and curious person who cared deeply about the people in his life. He was immensely talented in whatever he set his mind to and brought intensity and heart to everything he did. He loved being outdoors — fly fishing, camping, and spending time in nature brought him a sense of peace and joy. He was also an avid cook and took pride in sharing meals with the people he loved. He was a devoted dachshund dad and had a special bond with his dogs. Above all, Michael was proud to be a father, and his love for Everly was one of the most important parts of his life.
Later in life, Michael learned that he was dyslexic, something that helped him better understand his experiences growing up. He became passionate about raising awareness and supporting others with dyslexia, and he cared deeply about education, learning differences, and helping people feel understood.
Michael struggled with mental illness, and his death is a tragic reminder of how real and devastating those struggles can be. He was deeply loved, and his life mattered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michael’s memory to organizations supporting dyslexia awareness, literacy, or outdoor conservation.
Michael will be remembered for his love for his family, his immense talents, his curiosity, and the impact he had on those who knew him.
