Marybelle Hampsey Obituary

 

Marybelle Hampsey, nee Stamps, age 90, of Belleville, IL died on Monday, July 27, 2020 at St Elizabeth Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.

Marybelle was born & raised in Granite City, IL. She attended, Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church (Late Rev. Ralph Cook) as a child. Later in her childhood, her father and mother, Harry and Mary Stamps opened a church in Granite City as well. She accepted Jesus as her savior, was baptized in water and filled with the Holy Spirit at a young age. She attended camp meetings at Elco, IL, Olmsted, IL & Shepherdsville, KY. She met her husband of 73 years, John Hampsey Sr. in 1945 and they were married on October 24th of that year in McLeansboro, IL.  Marybelle was a devoted wife and loving mother.  She was kind, gentle and giving.  She had so much faith in the Lord and was always happy to help someone in need.  She was the very definition of Proverbs 31:10, “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” From 1945-2020, she attended church at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Wood River, IL, & Godfrey, IL (Late Rev. Clarence Gorman & Rev. Alfred Daves) Gospel Assembly Church, St Louis, MO, Christian Worship Assembly, Caseyville, IL (the late Rev. T. M. Jolly), & Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church (Rev. David Brimm). Her faith and her family was her life. She loved listening to Southern Gospel Music and enjoyed watching Fox News & SonLife Broadcasting Network. 

Marybelle is preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, John R. Hampsey, Sr; a grandson, Jacob Hampsey; her parents, Harry and Mary, nee Jolly, Stamps; a son-in-law, Paul Solana; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Hampsey; her brothers, Paul, Tom, Marion, Alfred, Bill, Tim, Phil and Charles; and a sister, Rose.

Precious mother to her five children, Estia D. Solana, Deborah P. (Dennis) Collins, John R. (Joyce) Hampsey, Jr., Laura M. (Crede) Edens and Katrina J. (Herbert) McCarty; her grandchildren, Chadwick W. (Robin) Collins, Heather J. (Timothy) Mitchell, Darwin John (Elisha) Collins, Merideth A. (Travis) Wilson, John R (Andrea) Hampsey, III, Thomas M. McCarty, Laurabelle McCarty and Matthew H. Edens; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters, Martha Hart, Lucretia (Jim) Browning, Richard (Susan) Stamps and Daniel Stamps; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gospel Tabernacle in Godfrey, IL.
