Mary Vartanian, aged 96, of O’Fallon, IL, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL born on September 3, 1928, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Memorial East Hospital, Shiloh, IL.
Mary was a long time member of the Holy Virgin Mary & Shoghagat Armenian Apostolic Church where she served as Choir Director and active member of the Women’s Guild. She worked in the family dry cleaning businesses on both sides of the family, Lamperson Produce Company, and the Illinois Central Railroad Credit Union. Her interests were family, church, and shopping. Mary’s smile will be deeply missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Vartanian; her parents, Nishan and Margaret, nee Kapoian Norsigian; and her siblings, Hrant Norsigian, Vahram Norsigian, and Beatrice Leap.
She is survived by her children: Toni (Randy) Heifner of Kirkwood, MO; Rebecca (Gerard) Chase of Webster Groves, MO; and Michael (Laurie) Vartanian of Fallbrook, CA; her five granddaughters, Ashley (Clint) Phillips, Lauren (Jerod) Jazenski, Stefanie (Patrick) McVay, Michelle (Kyle) Vaught, and Lindsey (Joel) Matthews; eight great grandchildren: Clymer, Cayson, McKenna, Harris, Connor, Raegan, June and Chase, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Holy Virgin Mary & Shoghagat Armenian Church, Swansea, IL, with Fr. Voskan Hovhannisyan officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
