Marlene Emma Reeb, age 92 of Belleville, IL, born on August 19, 1931 in Belleville, IL, died on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Mercy Rehab and Care Center, Belleville, IL.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cora H. nee Harpstreit and Arthur J. Reeb, and brother and sisters Arthur C. Reeb, Juanita (Raymond) Zelenka, and Patricia (Carl) Phillips.
Marlene is survived by her sister Mercedes (Earl) Hawkins, niece Stacey (Carl E. Walker, deceased) L. Hawkins and her daughter Ashley L. Walker, nephew Stephen L. Hawkins and his daughter Reilly E. Hawkins, niece Gayle (Garry Sauner) Philips.
Marlene was a Telephone Communications Operator at AT&T for 40 years, witnessing changes from 5-digit local phone numbers and manual switchboards, through all that followed. Marlene was a devoted daughter who cared for her ill Mother Cora for eighteen years. Marlene’s spirit of giving extended to many charities and caring for stray animals. Marlene enjoyed dancing at the Scott AFB USO. In following years, she was an avid walker at local parks. She had a large group of friends, and we trust that in God’s care Marlene is reunited with family and her dear friends.
A special thank you to Gayle for all the care she gave to Marlene by arranging in-home care, scheduling doctor appointments, and advocating for Marlene to all her providers. In addition, we want to thank Annette Cummings for always being there for Marlene and staying until the very end as her personal caregiver.
Condolences may be made to the family at www.kasslyfuneral.com. Private services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lebanon, IL, with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.
