Marie Anthony Howard (née Hory), of St. Louis, MO, born on November 9, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, died on the cusp of 95 on Friday November 7, 2025 at DeGreeff Hospice House in St. Louis, MO.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Thomas (Ed) Edward Howard; her parents, Arthur John and Cecilia Marie (née Mee) Hory; her sister Catherine Florence Westra (née Hory); her grandson, Ryan Thomas Howard; and her son-in-law Joseph Elias Abs.
Marie is survived by her children: Marian (James) Riley of St. Louis, MO, Carolyn Abs of St. Louis, MO, Thomas (Janice) Howard of Pacific, MO, Arthur (Pamela) Howard of Ballwin, MO, Kenneth (Sharon) Howard of Creve Coeur, MO, James (Karen) Howard of Ballwin, MO, and Daniel (Denise) Howard of St. Louis, MO; Barbara Howard (née Walczyk); her grandchildren: Katherine Riley, Marie Riley, Margaret Riley, Kevin Beaty, Michael (Taylor) Abs, Claire Abs, Joseph (Julie) Howard, Matthew (Tara) Howard, Lindsey (Eric) Illinger, Andrew (Lauren) Howard, Anna Howard, Mary Howard, Alexandra Howard, Spencer Howard, Brian Howard, and Mary Beth (Mason) Millstone; her step-grandchildren: Rebecca (Russell) Trudeau and Daniel (Melanie) Missey; her great-grandchildren: Anne Howard, Eleanor Howard, Samantha Illinger, Gabrielle Illinger, Rosemary Howard, Avery Trudeau, Sydney Trudeau, Tatum Missey, and two more expected.
Marie was a stay-at-home mom who was kept busy wrangling seven active children. Known to be tall, willowy, and the life of the party, Marie was quick to laugh and never afraid to speak her mind. She loved to travel and organize vacations with her family – from camping road trips, to Disney World, to journeys all over the world. Marie was an amazing cook, a genealogist, a voracious reader, a dog-lover, a bargain hunter, a seamstress, and a life-long learner. Her family was her pride and joy, and she could usually be found supporting them at their many events. Marie was a woman of many talents, but was happiest in her home, with her husband, surrounded by the chaos and love of her family.
Memorials may be made to DeGreeff Hospice House, to the Humane Society of Missouri, or to the Missouri Botanical Garden.
