Loretta J. Melichar

Loretta J. Melichar, age 93, of O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Belleville, IL, born on August 5, 1932, in Williamson, IL, died on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at her residence.

Loretta worked as a secretary at Mallinckrodt in St. Louis, MO, before staying home to raise her children.  She later worked in childcare for St. Mathew’s Church and as a personal banker in Belleville, IL.  Loretta was a longtime member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Belleville, IL.  She loved jigsaw puzzles, bingo and playing Mexican Train Dominoes with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Melichar; her parents, Matteo and Teresa, nee Dal Pozzo, Costa; and her siblings, Ida Myrick, Alma Howard and Margaret Cheperak.

Loretta is survived by her children, Carol (Todd) Hoeman of O’Fallon, MO and Steve (Jennifer) Melichar of Swansea, IL; and her grandchildren, Ethan, Jamie, and Anna Hoeman; and Emma and Olivia Melichar.

In Lieu of Flowers Donations may be made to Caritas Family Solutions or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Loretta Melichar.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.  Interment will be in Valhalla Gardens, Belleville, IL.
