Lieutenant Colonel Fred T. Moomau, Jr., USAF Retired, age 87, of Shiloh, IL, born on January 20, 1934, in New Orleans, LA, died on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Memorial Hospital, Shiloh, IL.
Lt Col Moomau led an honorable, distinguished, and decorated career in the United States Air Force and retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service. He flew with the 609th Air Commando Squadron during the Vietnam War; during which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and a second Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster. Fred loved his family, his career, and his country. May he rest in peace with his fellow comrades.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Virginia, nee Allen, Moomau, Sr., and his sister, Janet.
Those left to celebrate his life include his daughters, Sherry Moomau of O’Fallon, IL, Paula Wright of O’Fallon, IL, and Sonya (David) Del Vecchio of Swansea, IL; his grandchildren, Tanya (Reno) Pieroni, Jennifer (Trent) Poelker, Kaylyn Del Vecchio, and Kylee Del Vecchio; his great grandchildren, Reese, Blake, Ella, Nathan, Jack and Jill; and his brother, Joe “JB” Moomau of Olathe, KS. He was our loving dad, brother, and grandpa.
Private family services will be held at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL.
Interment will follow, with military honors, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
