Joseph John Kassly, Jr., age 75, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on December 13, 1947, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph John Kassly, Sr. and Dolores M. Kassly, nee Dove; his wife of 44 years, Sharon L. Kassly, nee Dyer; his brother James D. Kassly; and his sister, Judith Kassly.
Surviving Joseph are his daughters, Lori (Joe) RoosEvans of Troy, IL, and Amy (Matthew) Kassly-Reulecke of Collinsville, IL; his grandson, Aidan RoosEvans; his sisters Anita Stephens, Florence Kassly, Elizabeth Kassly, Dolores Kassly Phin, D.C., Cecelia (Brad) Kassly Eilering; his brothers Charles (Jenny) Kassly and Geoffrey Kassly; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joseph was a proud graduate of Western Military Academy, Class of 1965. He attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, until being drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Before departing, Joseph and Sharon were married on March 2, 1968. After returning, Joseph attended and graduated Indiana College of Mortuary Science, and then joined the family business.
Joseph dedicated over 50 years of his life as a Funeral Director and Embalmer at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd. He was elected to St. Clair County Board in 1988, representing District 28 for over 25 years, and also served as Fairview Heights City Clerk for a brief period of time. Joseph was involved in many organizations over his lifetime, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, Optimist Club, and Fairview Heights Jaycees, just to name a few. He was also a member of the Freemasons.
Memorials are preferred in Joseph's name to the Gary Sinise Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, Vietnam Veterans of America, or any reputable organization that aids our Country's veterans in need.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A procession will leave Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, East St. Louis, IL. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, at 11:30 a.m.
