Joseph Leonard Obal, age 90, of O’Fallon, IL, born on March 21, 1931, in Belleville, IL, passed away on January 8, 2022, at Memorial East Hospital, Belleville, IL.
Joseph was a hard-working farmer, landlord and square dance caller. It was at a square dance where he met his wife Marilyn Yvonne, nee Winchester. They wed on November 11, 1959. Joseph was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, O’Fallon, IL, and the St. Louis Callers’ Guild. In 1965 he and Marilyn danced their way to form the Dandy Dancers Square Dance Club.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Victoria, nee Smietana Obal; a brother, Thaddeus “Ted” Obal; and his two sisters, Helen Smith, and Clara Tebbano.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years Marilyn Obal; his two children, Laura Obal of Fairview Heights, IL and Douglas (Michelle) Obal of Fairview Heights, IL; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a brother, Stanley (Cathy) of Fairview Heights, IL;
Private family graveside services will be held under the direction of Kassly Mortuary at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL
