John Phillip "Phil" Medley

John Phillip “Phil” Medley, a proud husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, Marine, master carpenter, and classic car enthusiast, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Phil was a 51-year member of Carpenters Local 662(formerly local 169), where he generously shared his deep knowledge and passion for the craft with everyone around him. His pride in his trade was only matched by the integrity and precision he brought to every project. Phil was also a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.

Before dedicating his career to carpentry, Phil served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, a chapter of his life he cherished deeply. He loved telling stories about his time in the service, always with a gleam in his eye and a strong sense of pride.

Outside of work and service, Phil had a deep love for all things automotive, especially classic American cars. He had a particular fondness for Corvettes and ’57 Chevys and could often be found at car shows or swapping stories with fellow enthusiasts. Phil also had a lifelong appreciation for blues music, which was often playing in the background while he worked in his garage.

Phil will be remembered for his strength, craftsmanship, service, and the unforgettable stories he told so well. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janine Medley (nee Volkman), and their children: Linda(Mark)Voelker and their children Claire(Nick) Gibbons, Meredith Voelker, Katherine(Brad) Asselmeier; Brian Medley and his children Cameron(Gracie) Medley and Madeline Medley; Phillip and Tham Medley and their children Mai and Dylan Medley; and Michele Medley and her son Joe Medley. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma Geraci and Priscilla Vogler, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Phil was preceded in death by his mother, Augusta Medley; his sister, Margie Medley; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Volkman-Walz; his brothers-in-law, David Volkman and Jerry Geraci; and his daughter-in-law, Amy Jo Medley.

In accordance with Phil's wishes, there will be no formal visitation; instead, we will gather for a celebration of his life at a later date to honor his memory.
