John Anthony Stamper, also known as Tony, age 60, of Belleville, IL, born July 24, 1963, in East St. Louis, passed away on October 30, 2023, at his residence.
Tony was an altar boy at Our Lady of Assumption. He attended Belleville East High School. He worked as a chef at Steak n Shake, a salesman for vacuum cleaners, a custodian at Mascoutah Schools, and a handyman for many people. Tony was a loving son and brother who took care of his parents in their later years by playing cards daily and being their personal chef. He always remembered family's birthdays with a homemade cake and gave sticks of gum to anyone nearby. Tony was also into dirt bikes in his younger years and a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved to feed and serve those in need.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Stamper Sr. and an infant brother Ralph Edward.
He is survived by his sisters Virginia (Mike) Thompson, Barb (Blaine) Baker, Shirley (Tom) Speichinger, Carol Stamper (Mark) MacIntyre, Marilyn Stamper-Lewallen, Cecilia (Eric) Forguson, and Joanna (Angel) Lands, and his brother Robert (Susie) Stamper and step-brother James Stamper Jr. Tony was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Tony will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
