Jeanette Hoertel Obituary

Jeanette Theresa, nee McBride, Hoertel, age 88, of O’Fallon, IL, formerly of Belleville, born on September 23, 1937, died on November 11, 2025 at The Colonnade Senior Living, O’Fallon, IL surrounded by her loving children.

Jeanette enjoyed a happy childhood filled with many interests and showed a love for sports that would carry on her entire life. She enjoyed, skating, being with friends, watching movies, and most of all watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and St. Teresa’s Academy in East St. Louis. She met Bob in the Catholic Youth Guild. They fell in love and were married on May 4, 1957. They started their family soon after and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and faith. Her family was her greatest joy. She dedicated her life to caring for and guiding them. She was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She found strength and purpose in her faith, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand. Jeanette will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering love, and warmth that she brought into every room. Her kindness and example will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hoertel; parents, Clyde and Lucille (nee Doerge) McBride; sister, Donna Vollmer.

Jeanette is survived by her children, Denise (Steven) Westlund of Belleville, IL, Monica Hoertel of Lake Bluff, IL, John (Lisa) Hoertel of St. Louis, MO, Joe (Debra) Hoertel of Wood River, IL, Madonna (Bill) Benjamin of Swansea, IL, Stephanie Galloway of Imperial, MO, and Matt (Cyndi) Hoertel of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Daniel (Lauren) Westlund, Andrew (Ennis) Westlund, Erik Westlund, Brandon Seper, Sarah (Dusty) Federko, Chris (Tim) Doeschot, Katy Hoertel, Robert Hoertel, Christie (Mike) Cardwell, Bill Benjamin, and Alex (Fallon) Benjamin; great grandchildren, Tatum, Emerson, Ozzie, Barrett, and Ford; nieces and nephews, Julie (Vollmer) Vaughn, Rick Vollmer, and Bart Vollmer; great nieces and nephew; and many loving grand puppies, kittens, and birds.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Colonnade Senior Living and Family Hospice for the love, care, and compassion they showed Jeanette. We can never thank them enough.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation and Family Hospice

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 8707 West Main Street, Belleville, IL.  

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Father James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
