Janice M. Upton

Janice M. Upton, age 91, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on June 1, 1932, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Friday, June 16, 2023, at her residence.

Janice was a former pay clerk at Derby Oil in East St. Louis, IL, and a former legal secretary for Lashley & Baer, P.C. She loved bowling and participated in Winstanley Baptist Church league and with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Upton; her son in infancy, Michael Upton; her daughter, Diane Upton; her parents, Erastus and Pauline, nee Hughes Newell; and her siblings, Charles Sloat, Bob Sloat, Darlene Sloat, and June Gramlick.

Janice is survived by her children, Terry (Eleanor) Upton of Coventry, RI, Sandy Phelps of Fairview Heights, IL, and Vickie (Charles) Courtney of Maryville, IL; her grandchildren, Preston “P.T.” Phelps, Alexandra Courtney, Samantha (Mike) Paddock, Suzanne (Eric) Gagnon, Sarah (Brian) Grassi, and Jason (Jennifer) Upton; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Alexander, Nathaniel, and Emma Rose. She is also survived by loving extended family and friends.
