James M. Spengler, age 93, of Belleville, IL, born on December 2, 1927, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at St. Paul Senior Community, Belleville, IL.
James was a mechanic for McDonnell Douglas, now Boeing, in St. Louis, MO for 32 years. He was a former Assistant Fire Chief with Hollywood Heights Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, a committeeman for Hollywood Heights, IL, a Cub Scout Leader, a member of Holy Name Society and the Thursday Crew at St. Albert the Great and then Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene T. Spengler, nee Van Vooren; his parents, 3 brothers; 1 sister; and a granddaughter, Jodie Spengler.
He is survived by his children, Barb (James) Lenggenhager of Chicago, IL, Joan Zukosky of Collinsville, IL, Steve (Bonnie) Spengler of Caseyville, IL, and Michael (Tracy) Spengler of Belleville, IL; 6 grandchildren, Julie Lengennhager, Jeremy (Rachel) Spengler, Erin (Chad) Asprooth, Zachary (Jenna) Spengler, and Sara (Cody) Woodfin; 5 great grandchildren, Cameron, Leighton, Aliyah, Annabella, and Jamison.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Building Fund.
A private service will be held for family only. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
