To the Jim Kassly family: I have known Jim for only a short time. He called and asked for a get together concerning his fruit trees. Most of the calls like this are from people with only a fleeting interest; Jim walked in the door with a bulging three ring binder of tree fruit information. So the conversation was launched from his own reading and experience on the Kassly grounds. I think we met 5-6 times, and the talk inevitably went to the more important topics of family and business, and personal history. I read the online comments from the multitude of Jim's long time friends. Good character never stops, and it was open to me for the short-term. Rest in peace, friend. I'll take care of the apples for now.

Lori and Family,
I am so very sorry for the loss of James, he was a great man and I will miss his smile and compassion. He did every family funeral for us in the 80's, 90's and 2,000's. He was a great man and a man that was full of love and humility. Again, I'm so very sorry. I lit a candle in his memory.

My Thoughts and Prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time.

Him, Rest In Peace, My Friend!

Jim was an outstanding man and his loss will follow you, his family, forever; but please be comforted by the huge outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and reminisces from the many who will remember him always. I guess we knew Jimmy a lot better than Jim, but his sterling personality and wonderful ethics surely have been passed on to his son. May God bless your entire family and may Jim find his place in the House of the Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Came to know the Kassly family very well growing up. My dad, George Johnson, was a member of East St. Louis American Legion Post 53 Firing Squad and we spent a lot of time there on South 9th St. for Honor Guard Duty during visitations. When my folks were in a serious accident on the way to Southern Missouri for a family outing, Jim’s uncle came to pick us up after they were released from the hospital. My Mom, Elva, had to be on a stretcher. These were the days when the funeral homes ran the ambulance service also. Well, the ambulance broke down in Pacific, MO and we had to wait for them to send another ambulance down. Jim handled my brother Jim’s funeral details and not to long ago, Mom and I were down there and visited with Jim about her details. She will be saddened to hear of his passing. Our prayers and condolences go out to our friends, the Kassly’s, for their great loss. God Bless and may He grant you Peace.

Just wanted to pass on our deepest sympathies from my wife Sue (Cleveland) Haas and myself. Sue and Jim went to grade school together, and Jim and I have been friends since high school. We had an opportunity to rekindle our friendship when I rented the house on the Mortuary grounds while our house was being built. When a friend told me about Jim's passing it hit me hard. Jim was so genuine. I'm not sure that I have ever talked to anyone who listened so intently. You just knew that he cared about what you were saying and it made you feel so special. I will miss our talks, and I will miss that smile. He was special. Lori, I am so sorry for your loss.

I would like to extend my sympathy to the Kassly family. I met Jim on a tour to Lithuania during the summer of 2018, where we got to experience the quadrennial music festival held in Vilnius. Each meeting felt as if time had not really passed. I’m saying goodbye too soon- God bless you, your family and loved ones. You were blessed with the kindest of hearts, Jim, and you will be greatly missed.

Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Jim. We are just one family of so many that Jim helped in dealing with the passing of our own family members. He was such a kindhearted, warm and friendly person. Always putting our family at ease and making the most difficult thing in life a little easier. My aunts and uncles grew up with Jim and his siblings and my Grandpa Easton preached a lot of funerals at the Kassly mortuaries. Jim made a huge impression on our friends and extended family with his warm and friendly way at my mother's passing just 9 months ago. He will leave a lasting mark not only on his community but on all that knew him. Please know that you are in our prayers.

To the Kassly family: I am the daughter of "ReRe" (Maria) Cueto-Hartlein and she is just devastated. Jim was in her class and she really thought he was the perfect example of a good man and a beloved friend. Jim has been there for us so many times over the years, holding us in our deepest moments of grief and even sneaking my mom into his office to relax for a few minutes at my dad's wake (Dad was 46 when he passed, mom just 43). I will never forget the poem on the wall of the basement, "Gone From My Sight". It has provided me peace many times over the years and I hope as we grieve for Jim's sudden passing, that others on that distant beach are taking up the glad shout of, "Here he comes".

Deepest sympathy from the entire Cueto and Hartlein families.

This is absolutely heart wretching! I have known Jim almost my entire life. We attended school together at Holy Angels. My deepest sympathy to his wife, children and the entire Kassly family. The world has lost a true gentleman.
