Jacqueline Donohue

Jacqueline “Jackie” Donohue, age 94, of Belleville, passed away under hospice care on March 3, 2026. She was born on July 29, 1931, the only child of doting parents, F. Pearl Ulrich Cookson and Albert Ulrich of East St. Louis, IL.

Jackie was an accomplished pianist in her youth. She attended Dupo High School and graduated as valedictorian. Jackie had many friends and attended every class reunion. After graduation, she was introduced to her best friend’s brother, who had just returned home from serving seven years in the Navy. Timothy Donohue and Jackie were married  for 52 years until Tim's death in 2002. Together they owned several restaurants in the area, including The Hitching Post, Timmy’s, and Tim and Joe’s. They had four children, and Jackie devoted her time to being a full-time mother. Whether it was swimming, dancing and baton lessons, football, baseball, or Tae Kwan Do, she was always making sure the children were involved in many activities. After taking the boys to Tae Kwan Do lessons, she decided to take lessons herself and was eventually awarded a black belt. She continued practicing and teaching until she was 85 years old.

Being an only child, she was thrilled to be included in the large Donohue family. She was a constant in their lives and was loved by all of the family. She was the life of most parties, especially if there was music, because she loved dancing. She was the family’s last aunt of that generation and passed along family history to the younger generations.

Jackie is survived by her children, Terri Martin, Bridget Johnston, Timothy Donohue, and Michael Donohue; grandchildren, Sean Donohue, Michelle Martin, Sydney Johnston, Brittany Johnston, Evan Johnston, Dylan Johnston, Hadley Johnston, Timothy W. Donohue, and Matthew Donohue; great grandchildren, Patrick Donohue, Liam Donohue, Issac Donohue, Kieran Donohue, and Margot Johnston. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins,  and too many friends to count.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, Il.

Per Jackies wishes, she will be cremated and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
