Gilbert “Gil” Victor Sedabres, Major, USAF, Ret., age 79, of Belleville, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He was born on August 3, 1942, in Granite City, IL. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was selected for Officer Training School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, and later his MBA from SIU-E. After his military retirement, he worked for Vantage Credit Union as director of internal audit.
He was preceded in death by twin sons, Keith and Kevin Sedabres, in infancy; his parents, Victor and Sophia, nee Gerken, Sedabres; a sister, Mary Lou Sedabres, in infancy; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Mary Sedabres; maternal grandparents, Emil and Amelia Gerken; his in-laws, Joseph and Marie Lukac; his brother-in-law, Robert Lukac; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judith “Judy” and Jim Duff; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roberta and Donald Cook.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn L., nee Zientara-Lukac, whom he married on August 17, 1963, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Washington, Park, IL; his sons, Brian (Beth) Sedabres of Troy, IL, and Timothy (Kaitlynn) Sedabres of Medina, MN; his grandson, Nathan Sedabres, of Troy, IL; a granddaughter due in April; a sister, Stephanie Sedabres of Highland, IL; his sister-in-law, Barbara Schwarz of Belleville, IL; special friends Mike Tracy of Marine, IL, and Albert Schwarz of Atlanta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations are preferred to St. Augustine of Canterbury Building Fund or Disabled American Veterans.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A procession will leave Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee, Rev. Andrew Knopik, and Rev. Kenneth York officiating. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL with military honors.
