Gerold Lee “Jerry” Gregory, Sr., of Caseyville, IL, born in East St. Louis, IL, died on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his residence with his beloved wife at his side.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald L. Gregory, Jr., parents: James and Margaret Dixon and brother, Nick Gregory.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Alicica “Lisa” Gregory, children: Denise (Dale) McGee, Diana Guffey, Lisa (David) Parrott, and Kathy (Brian) Gibbs; grandchildren: Meagan (Hunter) Kinsey, McKayla (Brockton) Brown, Terry Guffey, Ashley (Kenny) Bishop, Jerry Gregory, Dustin James, Kayla Parrott, Sarah Parrott, Brandi Simmons, Briana (Jeremy) Self, Brian (Teal) Simmons, and Brittney (Jacob) Highbaugh; and great-grandchildren, Wrenley Kinsey, Grehson Bishop, Mayce Bishop, Mia Gregory, Elijah Gregory, Noah Gregory, Roman James, Raelynn James, Gavin Self, Briar Simmons, Titan Simmons, Berkleigh Simmons, and Karsyn Highbaugh, sister-in-law: Lonnie (Steve) Giertych, and his former wife, Julia Gregory.
Jerry joined the United States Navy In 1954 at the age of 17. He proudly served on the USS Bennington, the USS Oriskany, and the USS Los Angeles. He was involved in the Shakedown Cruise to Cuba, Haiti, and Gitmo Bay. Jerry transferred to the USS Oriskany on the West Coast in San Francisco in late 1954. In 1957 he crossed the International Date Line going from East to West and was inducted into the silent mysteries of the Far East.
Jerry worked at the Laborers Union Local 100 for many years including working at Local 100 at the tender age of 13. When he returned from the Navy he resumed working for the Union and was voted by the Union as the Secretary/Treasurer and Assistant Business Manager for 16 years.
Jerry loved hosting and attending family and friends’ gatherings, hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening (especially roses and tomatoes), boxing and his Union affiliation.
