George Chance Obituary

George Chance, age 81, of Caseyville, IL, born on August 2, 1940, in the house his father built passed away Tuesday night, December 28, 2021, at his residence in Caseyville, IL.

George grew up and lived in Caseyville all his life. He was a simple, caring, and hard-working man with so much love in his heart. George worked at Fairmont and Cahokia Downs Racetrack as a young man until he went into the gas station business with his father and then owning and running his own station, Chance’s Martin Station in Caseyville. In 1979 he went to work for St. Clair County Highway Department and retired from there in 1999.

George was very respected and well liked in Caseyville as he served as Caseyville Mayor for 27 years, Village Trustee for 5 years and was a member of the first Police and Fire Board in Caseyville. He served as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman in Caseyville Township for 29 years and was a member of the Democratic Club. George was active helping Caseyville Fire Department in his younger years helping with their picnics all while owning his gas station. He would furnish the gas for the Caseyville Fire Department.

Presently he was serving on the St. Clair County 911 Board from 2001 to present and was the President of the St. Clair County Canteen Drainage from 2013 to present.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lela, nee Sanders, Chance; 4 brothers, Chink, Herb Bert and Glenn; and 3 sisters, Josephine, Shirley and Barbara.

George is survived by his best friend, devoted and loving companion of 40 years, Linda Peters, nee Spears; his daughter, Jeanne (Scott) Sieron of Belleville, IL; and his sons, Michael Chance of Caseyville, IL, and Bobby Peters of Collinsville, IL; his grandchildren, Hunter Sieron, Max Sieron, Riley Sieron, Abby Chance, Zach Chance, Ruth Chance, and Eli Chance; and his siblings, Joe Chance of Oveida, FL, and Linda Staley of Belleville, IL.

Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Heart felt thanks to Dr. David O’Neill and his assistant, Maria, Dr. Koch, Dr. Hayat, for taking such good care and adding the extra years to George’s life. A very special thanks to Dr. Yaganti for being the kindest and most caring supporting friend.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.  

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL, with Father Clyde Grogan officiating.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
