Dorothy C. Staley

Dorothy Catherine Staley, of Lake City, Florida, passed away on September 18, 2025, at the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City. She fought a long and hard battle before she was called to be with the Lord.

Dorothy was born on June 23, 1960, in East St. Louis, IL to Joseph and Vivian Staley. She was raised in Cahokia, IL, where she attended St. Catherine of Laboure grade school and later public schools. She had lifelong friendships from early childhood and always carried fond memories of her family and friends throughout her lifetime. Her sociable personality led to her profession in the service industry. Most notably, she worked at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO. Later, she worked for a bowling alley in Lake City, FL., where she spent the latter half of her life.  More than anything else, she was proud to be a mother and grandmother.  

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Staley; brother, Joseph Staley; brothers in law, Richard McDonnell and Keith Reeder; and nephew Jeffrey Staley.

She is survived by her father, Joseph Staley of Fairview Heights, IL; children, Amanda (Michael) Bradford of Mt. Vernon, IL, Daniel (Cassie) Hammond of Branford, FL, Lindsay (Ronnie Frost) Hammond of Denver, CO, and Landon Milton of Mt. Vernon, IL; grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Liam, Colin, Jude, Darcy, and Vivian; her siblings, Diane McDonnell of Red Bud, IL,  Donna (Kevin) Miller of Palatka, FL,  Tammy (Bryan) Capper of Collinsville, IL, and Michael (Beth) Staley of Fairview Heights, IL; step daughters, Melissa (Rob Fillon) Gridley of Cooperstown, NY, Peggy (Matt) Carson of Granite City, IL; and her best friend since the first day of school, Linda Russell. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

We are grateful for the services provided for Dorothy from Suwannee Valley Hospice, especially her nurse Danielle, along with all the other great nurses and doctors and staff members. The care and compassion they have shown Dorothy and the family over the years gives us peace and comfort knowing she was in such caring hands for her final years.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
