Dorothy Hornacek Obituary

Dorothy J. Hornacek, nee Walsh, age 65, of Waterloo, IL, born on September 15, 1954 in East St. Louis, IL, and was called home on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 following a battle with metastatic breast cancer at Mercy South Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

In her gracious 65 years, she touched many people's lives as a wife, sister, mother, grammy, aunt, friend, and babysitter. Forty-eight of those years were spent with the love of her life, Steve. The both of them had and will continue to have an unbreakable connection. Aside from those titles, she was a warrior, she was adamant, and above all, she was a beautiful woman inside and out. She had a heart of gold, and made space in it for everyone she met, who she welcomed as family. Everyone saw her as the glue of the family.  She was Aunt Dot. She was not just Grammy to her grandchildren; she was Grammy to every child she babysat. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting her friends at the campground, and crocheting. We will all miss her contagious smile, her loveable personality, and her motherly spirit. She will forever hold a place in many people's hearts because of her kind, unfaltering soul. May Dorothy Rest in Peace with Jesus and enjoy good times with her previously passed loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Shirley Jean Walsh, Sr., nee Powe; and her siblings, Michael J. Walsh, Sr., Pamela Stratman, and John A. Walsh.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Steve Hornacek; her children, Karen J. (Jason) Daniels, Steven M. (Christy) Hornacek and Heather J. (Richard) Norman; her grandchildren, Karleigh, Hailey, Kennedy, Anna, Megan, Paisley, and Steven; her siblings, William (Marcia) Walsh, Jr., Linda Mansfield, Edward (Paula) Walsh, Sr., Mary (Larry) Stephens, Mark (Tina) Walsh, Sr.; brother-in-law, Darryl Stratman; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses and will be accepted at the mortuary.
