Concielia Rose Gass

Concielia Rose “Celi” Gass, nee Helfrich, age 95, of Freeburg, IL, born on December 23, 1927, in Belleville, IL, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Cedar Trails, Freeburg, IL.

Celi was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, St. Teresa’s Young At Heart Club, and an avid league bowler for over 30 years. She enjoyed traveling with her family, playing games and loved her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward John Gass, who she married on January 10, 1948; her son, John E. Gass; her son-in-law, Craig Hoffman; her parents, Jacob and Gertrude, nee Mueth Helfrich; her siblings, Leo Helfrich, Eugene Helfrich, Sylvester Helfrich, Cletus Helfrich, Genny Weber, Elsie Sheetz, Herbert Helfrich, Mary Ann Helfrich, and James Helfrich; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Norbert Gass, Vincent Gass, Marcel Gass, Joseph Gass, Cletus Gass, Anthony Gass, Marie Braun, Catherine Gary and Dolores Conklin.

Celi is survived by her children, Cecelia Gass, Carol (Trent) Showalter, Joanne (David) Mullen, Margaret Mackin, Linda (John) Mullett, Jean Gass, Mary Cox, and Scott (Michelle) Gass; her daughter-in-law, Carol Gass; her grandchildren, Sarah Hoffman, Jamie Hoffman, Kelly (Michael) Haynes, Chris (Erica) Mullen, Drew (Kate) Mullen, Tim (Melissa) Gass, Ryan (Katie) Gass, Laura (Brian) Sylvester, Katie (Guillermo Delgado) Mackin, Keegan Mackin (Lexi Groce), Erin (Pete) Kassly, Johnny Mullett (Sarah Cook), Kendra Clemenson, Dessa Clemenson, Janet Zornek, Megan Gass, and Will Gass; her 14 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Richard (Norma) Helfrich, and Rita Rickert; and her sisters-in-law, Wilma Gass, Joey Gass, Juanita Wallen and Bernice Spresser. Celi is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.  Interment will be in Greenmount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
