Charles Herbert “Chuck” Cantillon, Jr., age 80 of Fairmont City, IL passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 in St. Louis, MO.
Chuck was born to Charles and Lorraine (Ogle) Cantillon on April 1, 1945 in St. Louis, MO. Chuck graduated from Laboure Parish High School and attended Florissant Valley Community College. He was a proud US Army Veteran, serving his country in Vietnam.
A devoted husband and sports enthusiast, especially golf, Chuck was a proud father of two and grandfather of four. He coached his children and neighborhood kids in soccer, softball and baseball, and served as past President of the St. Louis Khoury League. Chuck was also a retired member of the Fairmont City Bottlecap Tournament (FCBCT), earning the title of 1999 Champion.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorraine Cantillon; his brothers-in-law, Paul Buffa, Sr., William Richard Halwachs and Joe “Pepe” Manso; sister-in-law, Carla J. Manso; and nephew Paul Buffa, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Cantillon, nee Halwachs; his son, Michael Cantillon (Mindy) of Troy, MO; his daughter, Jennifer Buehrig (Steve Konrad) of Wentzville, MO; his four grandchildren, Jamie Buehrig (Christian Tempe), Charles Buehrig, Ryan Cantillon, and Daniel Cantillon; his sisters, Donna Buffa of St. Charles, MO and Karen Kormann (Larry) of St. Peters, MO; his sister-in law, Mary Martinez (Dennis); his brother-in-law, Louis Halwachs, Jr. (Sherry); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Special thanks to his medical team at John Cochran Veterans Hospital, the staff at Davita Kidney Dialysis Center of Maryville, IL, MediPlex HealthCare Professionals, Care Planning Institute and the American Legion Post 961 of Fairmont City, IL for their services provided during his time of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Fairmont City Charitable Foundation or Fairmont City Fire Department Toy Drive.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
Military Honors will commence at 12:00 p.m. immediately followed by funeral service on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
