Charles A. Reiniger, age 87, of Freeburg, IL, born on June 12, 1935, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL.
Charles was a loving and devoted father and grandfather, always putting his children first. He was a United States Army Veteran and worked for over 40 years at Monsanto in Sauget, IL. Charles was a devout Catholic and grew up working at Holy Cross Cemetery, with the nickname of “Digger”. He loved playing baseball for the French Village Fire Department and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Charles enjoyed cutting grass on his zero-turn mower, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Christine” Reiniger, nee LaQuet; his baby son, Paul; his parents, Leo W. and Nellie, nee Chaput Reiniger, Sr.; and his siblings, Mildred (George) Theis, Norma (William) Gyon, Mary Catherine (Louis) Homoky, Leo Reiniger, Jr., and Vernon Reiniger.
Charles is survived by his children, Kimberly (Skip) Sprung, Karen (Todd) Badgley, David Reiniger, and Susan (Ryan) Howell; his grandchildren, Christine (Devin), Kyle, Kelly, Elle, Holly, Tara (Ryan), Megan, and Katie; and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Evelyn and Camden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Humane Society in honor of his love for his loyal companions.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral procession will leave Kassly Mortuary on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Caseyville, IL, with Fr. Harold Fisher officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
