Bernice Rengel, age 92, of Fairview Heights, born on October 2, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, died on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Keystone Place at Richland Creek, O’Fallon, IL.
Bernice was the cafeteria manager at Assumption High School, East St. Louis, IL for 25 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL, and St. Ann’s Altar Society. She was also a member of Polish American Ladies Society and OWLS Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. “Les” Rengel; a grandson, Thomas Williamson; her parents, John and Catherine, nee Godawa, Kowalik; and two sisters and one brother.
Bernice is survived by her children, William (Carol) Rengel of Freeburg, IL, Timothy (Nancy) Rengel of Troy, IL, and Nancy (Thomas) Williamson of Pontoon Beach, IL; her grandchildren, Michael (Susan Banashek) Rengel, Julie (James) Collins, Amie (Darren) Orlandi, Becki (Dustin) Rosenburg, Kristina (Jared) Zappia; and Timothy Williamson; 8 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Graham, Lakin, Khaina, Dren, Ryder, Nora, and Sam; and her brother, Carl Kowalik of Troy, MO.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, BJC Hospice, or Shriners Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL, with Fr. Stan Konieczny and Fr. James Nall officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks, National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
