Barbara J. Schwarz

Barbara J. Schwarz, nee Lukac, age 80, of Belleville, IL, born on January 13, 1944, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Barbara attended St. Martin of Tours Grade School in East St. Louis, IL, and graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame High School in Belleville, IL. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to St. Augustine’s pastor, Msgr. William McGee for his compassion and concern for the family in the past few days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie, nee Kalinowski, Lukac; her sisters, Judith A. (James) Duff, Roberta M. (Donald) Cook; her brother, Robert J. Lukac; and her brother-in-law, Gilbert “Gil” Sedabres.

Barbara is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Ann) Schwarz of Williamsburg, KY, and Audra M. Schwarz of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren, Abigail Schwarz and Robel Schwarz of Williamsburg, KY; her sister, Carolyn L. Sedabres of Belleville, IL; her nieces and nephews, Brian (Beth) Sedabres of Belleville, IL, Tim (Kaitlynn) Sedabres of O’Fallon, IL, Brigid Maltagliati of St. Louis, MO, James (Leah) Duff of Belleville, IL, Bernadette (Dave) Courtney of Belleville, IL, and Helen Cecchi of London, UK; great nieces and great nephews, Nathan Sedabres, Sophia Sedabres, Maura Maltagliati, and Sean Maltagliati; her brother-in-law, Joey (Julie) Cecchi of Dunedin, New Zealand; and her former spouse and father of their children, Albert W. Schwarz.   

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, School Sisters of Notre Dame of St. Louis, or Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGee officiating.

Interment will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
