Barbara M. Channer, age 89, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on October 23, 1936, in Washington Park, IL, died on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at St. Paul’s Senior Community Center, Belleville, IL.
Barbara was a retired secretary from the City of Fairview Heights with the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Commission and former Mayor George Lanxon for a total of 23 years. Barbara enjoyed cooking and canning food out of their garden, enjoyed fishing and cruises with her husband, Paulus. Most importantly, she enjoyed her grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paulus S. Channer; her parents, Anthony and Mary, nee Nosil Batha; and her brother, Carl Batha.
Barbara is survived by her children, Andrew (Vicki) Channer of Fairview Heights, IL and Cathleen (David) Hughes of Swansea, IL; her grandchildren, Megan (Jacob) Hall of St. Louis, MO and Danny Hughes of Swansea, IL; her great granddaughter, Sophia C. Hall; her sister, Mary Louis (Urban) Baum of Shiloh, IL and her sister-in-law, Jeanne Batha of Platteville, WI.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
