Alfred I. "Butch" Kassing, Jr.

Alfred I. “Butch” Kassing, Jr., age 62, of New Douglas, IL, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL, born on July 31, 1961, in Belleville, IL, died on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Butch was born to Marcia, nee Mackowiak, and Alfred “Butch” Kassing, Sr.  He graduated from St. Albert the Great Grade School and Belleville East High School, Class of 1979. Butch was a cook at Famous Barr Restaurant, worked at Wood Bakery, in O’Fallon, IL, and was a over the road truck driver for Schneider National for 13 years and a gas truck worker for Groendyke.

He loved fishing and bowling.  Butch bowled Seven 300 games.  He loved old record players, records of all kinds and sizes, as he had thousands of them.  He would go to trivia nights, and win.  Butch was a member of Archway Oldsmobile Club, where he judged cars at the shows. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Kassing, Sr; his grandparents, Al and Florine Kassing; his grandmother, Hattie, nee Gregowicz Mackowiak; his aunt, Linda Mackowiak; his nephew, Kenny Kassing, Jr; his great-grandparents, Gus and Eleanor Gruenewald and Joe and Michalina Gregowicz; and his stepfather, Larry Merchut.

Butch is survived by his mother, Marcia, nee Mackowiak Kassing-Merchut; his brothers, Robert Kassing, and Kenneth (Sharon) Kassing; niece, Samantha Kassing; his nephew, Andrew (Abby) Kassing; and his aunt, Shirley, nee Kassing Hurt.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL with Deacon Tom Powers officiating. 

Cremation will follow with a burial at a later date in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
