Graduated from Assumption High School with Wally in 72'. Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. Even though I have not seen Wally since high school, you never forget a fellow Pioneer.

Words are never enough. When MY grand-father, John, died [1875-1959]. It hardly said anything... my father, and he, weren't very close. To be blunt, my dad---no saint himself---was irritated that his father spent most of his time at the, next-door, at "The Maplewood Tavern". I recall [he died when I was almost 10], he knocked at our [unanswered] door all the time. This upset me greatly, because I never knew my middle-name-sake very well.
I have a laminated copy of HIS obit. It didn't say much. After research, I would have added: "... John McCluskey was a 100%-disabled Spanish-American War [1898] veteran. Co-founder of the local, VFW 1699 [ group established 1898] Post on Upper Cahokia Road. He was preceded, in death, by his commanding officer, Lt.Col Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of The United States (1901-1909); his wife, the mother of his children, Pina, nee Thompson, 1865-1931...."
At HIS funeral, in Mount Vernon, IL., my dad told me to reach over the casket and kiss his grandfather good-bye. I told Dad to did it, "I never even kissed him HELLO" was my angry reply.
Show your family you love them WHILE they are ALIVE.
Enough said.
