Virgil L. “Pete” Hoffman, age 83, of Collinsville, IL born on August 6, 1934 in East St. Louis, IL, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his residence.
Pete was known as a hardworking man who worked for over 40 years on the railroad. He was also famous for his great carpentry and handyman skills. He was cared for by many people when they needed quality craftsmanship done. Crappie fishing was one of Pete’s favorite hobbies and he was very good at it. He supplied the main course for many family fish frys. He loved to travel with his wife Mary and they made many excursions together. Pete always took great pride in his home and lawn and you could find him piddling in the yard, pulling weeds, cutting grass and mole hunting.
He was preceded in death by his first born son, Michael L. Hoffman in 1974 at the age of 20; and his parents, Virgil and Juanita Ruth, nee Wilson, Hoffman.
Pete is survived by his wife, Mary Hoffman, nee Brewer; his children, David Hoffman of St. Louis, MO, Sherry Hoffman of Collinsville, IL, Bill (Alisa) Hoffman of Staunton, IL, Pete (Barb) Hoffman of Collinsville, IL, and Susie (Jamie) Adkins of Dallas, TX; his grandchildren, Crystal Hoffman, Pete (Rosie) Hoffman, Robert Hoffman, Jeni (Jason) Hallgren, Jade (Justin) Shellenberg, Terri Hoffman, Kara Caussin and Blake Caussin; his great-grandchildren, Samantha, Holly, Mali, Savannah, Layla, Summer, Chloe and Orion.
The Family will be celebrating Pete’s life by wearing their Hoffman family reunion t-shirts. Please come casually attired.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Collinsville Extreme Baseball/Softball Club, Collinsville, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 with Rev. Greg Pratt officiating.
