Virgil D. Hensley, Jr., age 83, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on January 9, 1935 in Buffalo, NY, died on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at his residence with his family by his side.
Virgil served during the Korean War as a firefighter in California and also at Lambert Field in the United States Marie Corps. He retired as a Carman from Norfolk & Southern Railroad after 28 years of service. Virgil was a great father, papa and was also a great and avid golfer. He loved to take care of his dogs and his yard. He will deeply be missed by all.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil D. and Mildred D, nee Poston, Hensley; his sisters, Virginia Bardfield and Carol Eichholz; and his son-in-law, Roger Jouett.
He is survived by his wife, Judith E. Hensley, nee Lynch; his children, Debra (Greg) Hausmann of Herman, MO, Sherry Jouett of Fairview Heights, IL and Sandra Winkelmann of Fairview Heights, IL; his grandchildren, Eric Jouett, Greg Hausmann, Stephen Hausmann, William Hausmann, Theresa Jouett, Katelyn (Jason) Silva, Shelby Winkelmann, Caleb Winkelmann and Abigail MacBush; 7 great-grandchildren; his brother, James Hensley of Fairview Heights, IL and his son-in-law, Lukas Winkelmann of O’Fallon, IL. Virgil is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd, Fairview Heights, IL.
Visitation will also be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fairview Heights, with Bishop Ken Musick officiating. Interment will be held in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
