Veronica J. Sapolis, nee Konieczny, age 98, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Collinsville, IL, Washington Park, born on January 12, 1920, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Mercy Hospital South, St. Louis, MO.
She was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL. Veronica was also a member of the Polish American Ladies’ Society, the St. Adalbert Mothers Club, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a homemaker, and earlier worked at East St. Louis Laundry and Swift & Company. Veronica was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved quilting, bingo, and going to the casinos, as well as listening to polka music. She was a very loving mom, grandma, and great grandma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sapolis; her parents, John and Veronica, nee Trytko, Konieczny; her sisters, Mary Dus, Josephine Warzala, Stephanie Lasky, Julia Novak, Anna Monte, and Jane Starwalt; and her brother, Stanley Koniecnzy.
Veronica is survived by her sons, John (Loretta) Sapolis of Collinsville, IL and Larry Sapolis (Carol) of St. Louis, MO; her grandchildren, Angela (Alan) Bruun of Winter Garden, FL, Susan (Robert) Smith, Jr., of Collinsville, IL, Joshua Sapolis, and Michael Sapolis, both of St. Louis, MO; 5 great-grandchildren, Lily Sapolis, Caleb Clark, Ava Smith, Ella Smith and Elliot Bruun. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials are preferred to Mother of Perpetual Help Church, Maryville, IL.
Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL with Fr. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Veronica’s cremated remains will be laid to rest with her late husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
