Roy Salsman Obituary


Roy Douglas Salsman, age 66, of Belleville, IL, formerly Louisville, KY, born on August 7, 1951 in Louisville, KY, died on January 31, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

At the age of sixteen, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame; at the age of seventeen he earned a Master’s Degree of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame. He joined the United States Air Force and served as a jet pilot during the Vietnam era. At the age of thirty-four he earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, Computer Information Technology and Systems Management from Cleveland Institute of Electronics; at the age of thirty-six he taught Architecture for 5 years at University of Kentucky; at the age of forty-two he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Louisville; and at the age of forty-seven he became a Master Certified Internet Webmaster. He had a devout love of music and could cite the song title, artist, writer and year the song was released.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Salsman; and his parents, Elroy and Margaret, nee Coy, Salsman.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Pam Salsman, nee Croissant; his son Matthew Salsman; his brother, James (Cathy) Salsman; his step-children, Jeanine Johnston, Andrew (Anndrea) Martignoni, III, and Kermit Martignoni; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his father and mother-in-law, Kermit and Theresa, nee Levy, Croissant; and his brother in law, George Michael Croissant.

Memorials may be made to Gary Sinise Foundation or to St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, Belleville, IL.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February, 8, 2018 at St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, Belleville, IL with Msgr. David Darin officiating. Following the mass internment of Douglas’s ashes will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
